FocalWell 66 is a photography app that brings the rhythm of a classic 6×6 medium-format camera to iPhone. You don't look at the screen; you look down into a waist-level finder and compose on ground glass.

There are no filters: fifty-three film stocks, and you load the film before the shot, so the frame is born on it. Seven lenses — normal, wide, portrait, soft focus, tilt-shift, fisheye and an antique meniscus — each with its own drawing and distortion.

Twelve frames a roll; when the counter fills, the roll winds on. The frame doesn't appear at once — it sits in the tank for a development time you choose, and a notification arrives when it's ready. The gallery is a contact sheet, not an endless scroll. Frames stay on the device: no account, no ads, no analytics.

You choose the film before the shot. No filters. Fifty-three film stocks: colour negatives, slides, black-and-whites, and the house's own blends. You load the film first, and the frame is born on it. There's no trying filters afterwards; there's thinking about light beforehand.

Seven lenses. Normal, wide, portrait, soft focus, tilt-shift, fisheye and a single-element antique meniscus. Each with its own drawing, edge behaviour and distortion; none of them tries to correct the frame or the faces.

Twelve frames a roll. Like 120 film. When the counter reaches twelve the roll winds on. Every frame is recorded with its roll and frame number; the gallery is a contact sheet.

A development wait worth waiting for. The frame doesn't appear at once; it sits in the tank for the time you choose — pre-soak, develop, stop, fix, wash, dry. A notification arrives when the film is out. Set the time to zero to see it instantly, but those who wait usually keep waiting.

Manual control. Shutter, ISO and aperture dials. Bulb: open and close the shutter by hand, or use timed exposures. Double exposure: take one frame as a base and lay another over it.
